Training / orientation on school safety & security measures

A training cum orientation programme on 'School safety and security measures' for teachers and students was held at Lamlong Higher Secondary School today.
Department of Education (School) in association with Samagra Shiksha, Manipur organised the training cum orientation from November 16.Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam said that the training cum orientation programme will raise awareness among teachers and students to be more alert and enable them to reduce/avoid risks during natural disaster, human-made or any other form of emergencies.
The Minister expressed that the training is being taken up as a part of school education so that knowledge regarding safety and security measures is presented in a more inclusive and holistic manner.
The training cum orientation programme aims to equip the teachers as the first line counsellor and guide in events of any disasters and minimize losses to life and property and to make Post Traumatic Stress Counsellors for students in schools in any eventualities of any disaster.
The major areas/domains of the training are safety and precautionary measures, preparedness, first aid, rescue techniques, post-traumatic stress management in the event of natural and man-made disaster like earthquake, fire incident, snake bite drowning fainting etc.
The programme is being conducted in partnership with the Manipur Fire Services Department and the Indian Red Cross Society Manipur State Branch.
So far, the training has been held in 58 schools/venues located in 17 Educational Zones of 16 Districts of Manipur.
The department aims to complete the remaining identified schools/venues by December 7.In all 80 schools/venues will be covered.
The programme was attended by the Commissioner, Education T Ranjit, Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, Dr RK Nimai, Divisional Officer, Manipur Fire Service, L Nabachandra, officials concerned, teachers and students.
Rescue operations techniques were also demonstrated.
