Imphal, March 31 2018:
The Block Congress Committee (BCC) and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), Heingang have reacted strongly against the controversial statement made by Chief Minister N Biren at Madhavpur Fair in Porbandar district of Gujarat on March 27, terming it (the assertion) as an attempt to coerce/push everyone in the country including Manipuris under BJP's Hindutva philosophy of "One Nation, one culture and one religion".
Addressing a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club, PCC Heignang member P Saratchandra stated that the recent assertion made by CM Biren and other leaders of BJP was regretful for all, including intellectuals and academicians as it distorted the original history of Manipur and North East.
He stated that Manipur has its own clear and profound history of more than 2000 years which testifies that the State existed as an independent kingdom and became a State of India only after it was merged into India in 1949.The land/kingdom/State has been ruled by many rulers, including Nongda Lairen Pakhangba since the time of 33 AD.
One should not try to distort the history of any State or country for the sake of political gain or to earn political mileage.
The history and cultures of a community or a State should always be kept intact and their sanctity should not be intermingled with politics, he added.
Claiming that Rukmini was the daughter of Vidarbha's king Bhismaka as per the information received from mythological stories, write ups in Hindu religious books and narration by Hindu scholars, Saratchandra decried that the assertions of the CM and other BJP leaders at Madhavpur Fair maligned the religious institution of a religious group thereby distorting their beliefs and mythology of a religion.
He also alleged that the BJP often make several false claims and distorted histories many times in the past for political benefits.
Observing that political leaders need to have proper knowledge and understand the real thing before speaking on matters, issues or topics related to a community, society or religion, the PCC member asked BJP leaders to study before they deliver speeches on any such topic.
Heingang BCC president Ng Brojen who also attended the press meet lamented that the CM of Manipur has not yet issued any proper clarification on his controversial speech at Madhavpur Fair so far.
He opined that the clarification made by an Advisor to CM in connection with the CMs assertion at Madhavpur was doubtful and
will not be accepted by anyone.
