Imphal, March 27 2018:
The Kabui Union Manipur has condemned the decision of the Tatar Hoho, NSCN/GPRN, claimed to have been taken on March 23 in pursuance of a directive by the vice president of NSCN/GPRN, for recognition of new Naga tribes, and has appealed to all those concerned to review and clarify regarding the recognition of Rongmei and Kabui as two separate tribes.
A press release issued by the vice president of Kabui Union Manipur today, claimed that the move is an attempt to create distrust and discord within the Zeliangrong family and the double recognition given by the Central Government and NSCN/GPRN, has created great confusion among the public.
Questioning how a single tribe has been recognised by two different names, Kabui and Rongmei, the Kabui Union Manipur appealed to the NSCN/GPRN to review the issue and clear the prevailing confusion at the earliest.
It further appealed to the village khunbu/khullakpa/chief, social workers, intellectuals, youth, students and women organisations and the public to remain alert against any activities/attempts to undermine the long history of Kabui tribe directly or indirectly.
It also mentioned that the Kabui tribe has contributed tremendously in various social, cultural and political movement of the Nagas and added that the union will take up every possible steps to protect and preserve the Kabui ethnic identity.
