Pros and Cons of CSOs debated

The 4th Foundation Day celebration function of Kamini Devi Memorial Library and THAU Information Centre was held today at the office complex of Thangmeiband Athletic Union (THAU) at Thangmeiband in Imphal today.
A state level open debate competition was also held with the topic 'The multifaceted activities adopted by various civil societies in Manipur in the name of welfare of the people do more harm than good' .
At the debate competition Dhanabir Laishram, social scientist was the speaker while juries included Rupachandra Yumnam, correspondent of the Seven Sisters Post, Dr Th Binarani Associate Professor of political science of GP Women College and Ch Birchandra, Assistant General Manager of Manipur Cooperative Bank.
Among 12 participants Mayanglambam Sureshkumar Singh of Kakching Khunou Hijam Maning leikai scored 1st position while Khundrakpam Ranjit Singh of Khangabok Khullakpam leikai and Selish Oinam of Singjamei Chinga Mathak Pishum leirak landed the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
Addressing as chief guest, state political stalwart O Joy lamented that movement for establishing library was in the state long before World War II and it has not seen growth in recent past and wondered as to why ministers of the state are keeping away from the library, despite well established infrastructure.
Lauding the role of debates, dialogues and group discussion in shaping democracy, he encouraged such programmes in future.
