Gangte to mark 100 yrs of embracing Christianity

Marking 100 years of embracing Christianity, Gangte tribe in Manipur would be celebrating 'Gangte Christian gospel centenary' in a grand manner from December 13 to 16 at the premises of Evangelical Synod Church, Chiengkawnpang, Churachandpur district.
Speaking to media person in this regard, Prof.L S Gangte, Chairman of Gangte Christian Gospel Centenary Committee (GCGCC), said that in 1815, Gangte people migrated to Manipur from Mizoram and later adopted Christianity in 1912.Earlier, Gangte people followed Animism (belief on natural phenomena, including animals, plants and inanimate natural objects) .
However, Gangte people are still scattered in different parts of Manipur and other neighbouring states.
In Manipur, the population of the tribe is around 27,000 .
In this "Grand Rs 20-lakh budget centenary celebration", Gangte people from as many as 174 villages and members of 79 churches of different denominations would participate, he said, adding that as part of the celebration, 6 (six) resource persons would deliver speeches on the theme of 'gospel for transformation' .
It is said that earlier, GCGCC installed a centenary stone at Churachandpur's Saichang village.
Opening a centenary hall having 10,000 seating capacity, reciting hand written bible, releasing a souvenir, talks and other cultural activities would be the main highlights of the celebration.
