Imphal, November 25 2012:
Due to failure in the administrative and economic planning by the Union Government, hatred among the various ethnic groups in the state has come about thereby giving rise to a 'conflict situation' in the state, MLA Dr I Ibohalbi has asserted.
The MLA was speaking while inaugurating an 'awareness cum voluntary blood donation camp' at Imoinu Community Hall, Singjamei Makha Khongnang Pheidekpi today.
The camp was organized jointly by Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Youth Congress and Department of Incompatible Hemolytic Blood Transfusion (IHBT), RIMS.
He further stated that the conflict situation in Manipur has evolved due to rising sentiments of various ethnic groups settling in the state from the faulty administrative and economic planning of the Union Government.
So, the State Government should make its stand clear to the Union Government on this issue in the larger interest of the State and its people.
The MLA also pointed out the need to appoint another two Manipuris as Judges of Gauhati High Court, saying that there are four quota seats for Manipuris in the Gauhati High Court but only two have been inducted so far.
Though the rate of voluntary blood donation in the State was low earlier, now more than 20,000 bottle units of blood have been donated voluntary.
The requirement of blood on a yearly basis is 1 percent of the whole population.
As such, in Manipur where the population is around 27 lakhs, around 27,000 people of the state needs to come up to donate their blood voluntarily in a year, Dr Ibohalbi added.
Th Bishwanath, Gen Secy of MPTYC, who was also present on the occasion, said that the Manipur MPTYC has come up with the initiative of donating blood for the first time in order to help the needy people.
