IPR Min Biswajit stresses on maintaining accuracy in news reporting

Information and Public Relations Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh has assured to give full cooperation and support to the media fraternity of the State.
The Minister made the assurance at the launching ceremony of English daily, 'The Morning Bell' at Thangal Bazar today.
The Minister said that these days, although a report or news can be shared quickly through social media sites, newspaper is still where the public verify and confirm whether the report is genuine.
He urged the editor and staff of the daily to maintain accuracy in their news report.
Further stressing on the importance of maintaining accuracy in filing one's report, he said a newspaper or a news agency's credibility will improve and gain popularity with masses if they continue to make their reports accurate.
He said that accurate news will also mean improving quality of the media house which will eventually improve the business.
Recognizing the role of a reporter in shaping the society, the Minister promised to extend all possible benefits for the journalists fraternity.
Observing that media persons have a set of ethics to follow int he profession, the Minister continued that media houses should also ensure that their staff are following the set ethics as any unscrupulous individual acting as a media person and abusing the powers vested to a reporter can bring down the media house.
The IPR Minister further wished the newly launched daily all the best in their endeavour.
The launching function was also attended by retd IPR Director Meghachandra Kongbam, publisher Laimayum Bashanta Sharma who is also the chief editor and Editor RD Alexander.
