Chief Minister N Biren today handed over nine new Toyota Innova cars to Imphal West and Imphal East District Police for the recently launched Manipur Police Patrol Unit.
Counting the three cars given earlier, the patrol unit has now 12 Toyota Innova cars.
The Chief Minister handed over the cars at a function held today at 10 am where many Ministers, MLAs, DGP LM Khaute and other senior police officers were present, according to press release issued by Manipur Police PRO W Basu.
The Manipur Police Patrol Unit covering Imphal city and parts of Imphal West and Imphal East districts was created to provide better security and induce a sense of confidence and safety in the minds of the public, it said.
It also appealed to the public to call the telephone numbers given on the police patrol vehicles or directly approach the patrols in case of any exigency.
DGP LM Khaute and other senior police officers handed over Rs 2,92,44,259 to the Chief Minister which was contributed by Police Department towards the Chief Minister's COVID-19 Relief Fund.
Police Department would continue its all-out efforts in enforcing the lockdown norms and in the containment of COVID-19, it added.
