Bishnupur, April 20 2020:
COVID-19 has been affecting the whole Nations and the residents of Parengba Khuman under Saitu Assembly Constituency in Kangpokpi District, are facing an exceptionally burdensome time with deteriorating and exhausted essential commodities and medical supply due to the callousness of the authorities concerned.
The village neighbouring to Chinikon village in Bishnupur district is inhabited by 200 residents and mainly depend on agricultural works and manual labour for livelihood but with the imposition of the lockdown, supply of essential commodities such as medicines, rice, edible oil, pulses, salt and other sanitary items, has been cut off.
The households in the village had received 10 kg of NFSA rice each in March, but this came out to be the only help the villagers got from the Government's side on account of the lockdown.
No organisation, individuals, social workers and concerned authorities except Youth Forum For Protection of Human Rights Manipur, has reached out to them since the distribution of NFSA rice, said a chairman of the village, Namsinlung Thaimei who is very concerned of the grim situation.
Only two zero balance account holders from the village have received Rs 500 under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, the chairman continued and highlighted the difficulty in raising their grievances at the district HQs.
He, however, expressed gratitude to volunteers of Youth Forum For Protection of Human Rights Manipur for their generous contribution of 1 bag of rice, apart from edible oil, salt, pulses, pepper, ngari and other edibles.
The womenfolk of the village also denounced the leaders who only come out in the time of an election.
While drawing the attention of all concerned to look into the matter and ensure supply of essential commodities in the village, the village chairman also stated that they will be left with no choice but to break the lockdown to meet their needs.
