MSF appeals orgs to defer Aug 16 bandh, says it coincides with 14th death anniv of P Chitaranjan

Manipur Students' Federation (MSF) president Ng Milan has asked the UCM's constituent bodies and different transport unions/organizations either to defer their proposed agitation of ceasing passenger services on August 16, in view of the 14th Death Anniversary Observation of Athouba Pebam Chitaranjan Mangang, that will be held on the same day or to conduct the agitation in a way that will not affect the event.
He also appealed to all to cooperate and participate at the observation.
Addressing a press meet at AMUCO office near Kwakeithel bazaar today, the MSF president said that the observation of the death anniversary of Pebam Chitaranjan Mangang has been organized since 2005 in commemoration of the sacrifice he made for the cause of the Manipuri society.
He went on to remind that Chitaranjan was self immolated on August 16, 2004 for the sake of Manipur and future generations as a part of his demand to repeal AFSPA from the State.
He was a human torch of Manipur and hence the people of the State still remember to this today, he added.
Like in the past, MSF is all set to organize the observation with a mammoth silent rally that will begin from Takhel Leikai to Tiddim Ground.
After unveiling Chitaran-jan's portrait built/erected at Memorial Complex at Bishnupur and floral tributes will be paid.
It may be mentioned that the UCM and its constituent bodies ACOAM Lup, CLK, IPAK, IPSA, Kanglamei, KILL, KSA and PANDM along with different transport organizations/unions have taken a decision to cease passenger service on August 16 as a part of the people's movement to safeguard the integrity Of Manipur and the sanctity of its territorial boundary.
