Lamka, June 09 2014:
Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Churachandpur has expressed deep resentment over the attempted assassination of Chungjalen Haokip by an armed man at his residence at Tuibuong in Churachandpur on June 7 .
KSO expressed its regret and said such a thoughtless act may invite reprisal, Chungjalen Haokip being the elder brother of Kuki National Liberation Front (KNLF)'s secretary.
This could further deteriorate the tension prevailing between two rival groups, UKLF and KNLF in the already volatile situation in Chandel district.
Chungjalen is a former leader of KSO in Chandel district.
He is also into politics and had contested election several times from Chandel assembly constituency.
According to KSO, Churachandpur, the perpetrators of the crime should understand that their action will have ramifications of great magnitude in affecting the common people.
It will bring no good and no conclusive end but only more misunderstandings that could disturb peace and harmony in Chandel district.
It then said that this blatant attempt on one's life is strongly condemnable and the KSO appeals to the group behind the atrocious act to clarify their real intention of killing the elder brother of the KNLF leader.
"It is in the interests of the Kuki society that they should desist from further attempt on the civilian elder brother of KNLF leader.
The group involved in the attack will gain nothing out of this but the ire and rejection from the public," the KSO said.
The foremost consideration they should mull over is that Chungjalen is a social worker and a public personality and a civilian, KSO stated.
