'Foreign firm mulling Rs 400 Cr hospital in Keirao'

A Netherlands-based firm has shown keen interest in setting up of a hospital at Waithou Chiru in Keirao Assembly Constituency at an estimated cost of Rs 400 Crore.
However, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoU) in this regard is yet to be inked as the firm first wants to see the site where the hospital will be established.
This was divulged by Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar while laying foundation stone for construction of a district hospital at Kyamgei Mayai Leikai, Imphal East district today.
Jayantakumar said that the previous Government had planned to set up the district hospital at Sagolmang with a reserved fund from PWD.
He disclosed that some parts of the proposed construction site belong to MLA of Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency.
Later the site was shifted to Kyamgei in consultation with the Chief Minister as there were issues with regard to land compensation and custodian of the land, he said.

The Minister asserted that local MLA Lourembam Rameshwor was also instrumental in shifting the site to Keirao which is lagging behind in the field of healthcare as compared to other constituencies.
He then announced that construction of the district hospital will begin soon after completing land development works.
Jayantakumar who also holds the portfolio of Arts and Culture maintained that construction of an AYUSH Hospital in the constituency is on.
He also revealed that the Government is planning to set up a film city in the constituency.
Speaking at a public meeting held in connection with the foundation stone laying ceremony, MLA Rameshwor lauded the Chief Minister and Minister Jayantakumar for ensuring construction of the district hospital at Kyamgei.
The MLA also hailed those locals who donated land for the hospital.
He informed that a proposal has been sent to the concerned Ministry for upgrading Kongba-Yairipok road to the level of National Highway.
He said that there is also a plan to construct the road leading to the district hospital and other main roads in Kyamgei in the form of a ring road for ensuring smooth traffic.
Declaring that the Chief Minister has given nod to set up a sports complex at Arapti at the cost of around Rs 20 Crore, he appealed to the individuals/groups not to create obstacles in development works taken up in the constituency and instead extend help in the works.
MLA of Kshetrigao AC Nahakpam Indrajit; DC Imphal East Th Chitra Devi and Director (Health Services) Dr K Rajo were present at the occasion.
It may be mentioned that former Chief Minister O Ibobi laid foundation stone for construction of a district hospital at Sagolmang in Khundrakpam AC on December 16, 2011 .
