Imphal, May 19 2021:
At a time when the Covid pandemic is wreaking havoc, Saina Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Porompat has instilled a ray of hope, especially to the poor and needy by providing free ambulance service along with oxygen for needy patients.
The nursing institute has been a saviour of at least few people operating free ambulance service for both Covid and non-Covid patients in Imphal East and Imphal West since May 17 .
The ambulances are being operated round the clock and equipped with oxygen cylinders along with two nurses and a doctor each.
However, the shortage in oxygen is compelling the institute to provide the same facility only to those patients in need since yesterday.

Speaking to The Sangai Express, SIMS managing director S Kumar asserted that the free ambulance service was initiated considering the inconvenience being faced by common people at the time of emergency.
"I have been deeply touched and pained in seeing many families running from post to pillar to get an ambulance to admit their near and dear ones to hospitals", he added.
Saying that the cost of ambulance service during this pandemic ranges from Rs 7,000 to 7,500, Kumar maintained that poor families who are living from hand to mouth are finding it hard to pay the ambulance charge.
He further expressed satisfaction that SIMS has so far rendered ambulance service to at least 32 families.
Asked about the management of oxygen facilities being provided in the ambulance, the Managing Director stated that the institute faces shortage in oxygen supply and refilling oxygen cylinders takes a long time.
The institute identifies patients who need oxygen supply and provide the facility, he added.
While maintaining that non-Covid patients are also facing extreme difficulties in visiting hospitals and clinics, Kumar conveyed that the institute has been operating an ambulance service for non-Covid patients free of cost.
He also appealed all to contact 8837497797, 9863154726 and 9366683635 to avail the benefit of free ambulance service.
