Imphal, November 16, 2013 :
Stating that it was the Congress-led SPF Government which gave its consent to the Indo-Myanmar border fencing in 2008, BJP State unit president Th Chaoba has asserted that then coalition partner CPI cannot claimed innocence when large tracts of Manipur's territory would be left out on the side of Myanmar on account of the border fen-cing work.
Th Chaoba was speaking at a felicitation function of ex-servicemen who joined BJP recently.
Addressing the gathering at the party office today, Chaoba recalled that the whole of Manipur raged with fire when NDA Government inserted the three words 'without territorial limits' in the ceasefire agreement signed with NSCN-IM.
This led to massive violent protest movements and 18 people lost their lives.
Realising their folly, the NDA Government deleted the three words.
The raging issue of border fencing is an outcome of the consent given by the Congress Government.
CPI was a partner of the then coalition Government and one of its member was a Cabinet Minister.
As such, CPI cannot claim innocence for the Government's wrongdoing, Chaoba asserted.
Saying that good governance is missing in Manipur, Chaoba decried that the MPP vice-president was shot dead in broad day light within the high security zone of Imphal airport.
Noting that many criminal elements have been operating within high security zones, Chaoba questioned if the Go-vernment has done anything worthwhile to neutralise these criminal elements.
Welcoming all the ex-servicemen who have joined BJP, Chaoba exuded that ex-servicemen joining BJP can bring a change in Manipur and help in establishing good governance in the State.
In spite of the high rate of unemployment, neither the Congress Government nor its MPs have done anything to hold recruitment rallies in the State.
There are more than 17,000 ex-servicemen in the valley areas alone.
Among them, 70 were holding officer ranks.
BJP would organise a huge rally of ex-servicemen and provide all possible assistance to them, Chaoba said.
BJP spokesman Prof S Ti-ken said that there is no sur- prising element in ex-servicemen joining BJP for the party is guided by a principle of value based politics.
BJP has its own unique identity and is committed to five principles.
Col (retd) Chungkham Jayraj remarked that Manipur has been contributing significantly to the human resource pool of India in spite of its little population.
Ex-servicemen need to join BJP and work collectively for BJP is one party which is convinced that India can never develop when the North East region languishes in underdevelopment, Jayraj said.
Later, Chaoba presented humble gifts to three widows whose husbands were killed in different battles.
