Imphal, November 16, 2013 :
United Naga Council (UNC) said it is greatly disturbed by the violent exchange of firing between armed cadres of NSCN-IM and ZUF on November 16 at Phailong village in Tamenglong district.
In a statement, UNC pointed out that the said incident has resulted in loss of precious lives and injuries.
Villagers have fled the villages in panic as the confronting sides are reported to be gearing up for another showdown.
The atmosphere in the area is vitiated with insecurity.
"We condemn any form of violence because it silences the voice of reason within society and within oneself.
We appeal to the armed groups as we have always done in the past, to allow space for dialogue to come in place so the noble cause that they espouse may be upheld unitedly in spirit of brotherhood", UNC said.
The statement of the UNC further said, "We also condemn the bomb attack on the office of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), in the heart of thickly populated Ukhrul town on the night of November 16.We reiterate that such abominable acts are alien to the culture and social values of the Naga people.
While it is the moral obligation of every Naga to uphold the traditional institution of the people, some mindless force have once again attacked and insulted the same," the Naga body added.
The civil society, which upholds the unity and oneness of the people once again appeal to all concern to refrain from violence, use of terror weapons and indulging in self infliction which reduces our hopes and aspirations as a people, it added.
