Imphal, October 15 2020:
COVID-19 positive patients who are under home isolation will be provided with medicines to boost their immune system and help them recover from the disease, said Chief Minister's Advisor (Health), MLA Dr Sapam Ranjan today.
Speaking to media persons at Health & Medical Directorate at Lamphelpat, Dr Ranjan said the Health Department is providing the medicines which are mainly immune boosters free of costs to those who are undergoing home isolation.
Immune booster tablets such as Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) VIT-CE Tab, Zinc Sulphate Dispersible Tablet IP 20 Mg and Cholecalciferol Soft Gelatin Capsule Calcidic-D3 will be given to the COVID-19 patients.
These medicines are being prescribed by health experts all over the world to boost body immune system, he said.
The medicines will reach about 407 COVID-19 positive persons under home isolation.
Till yesterday, the number of COVID-19 positive patients under home isolation had reached 1088.681 had recovered and 407 were active cases.
The recovery rate for those under home quarantine stood at 63 per cent yesterday, Ranjan said.
Chief Medical Officers and MOs will supervise the distribution of the medicines to patients in their respective districts.
To effectively reach the patients, local organizations will be involved, he added.
Stating that there has been an increase in the number of daily positive cases, Ranjan said State officials including Principal Secretary (Health) held a meeting yesterday and discussed the COVID-19 status in detail.
The Health Department is taking priority in increasing the number of COVID-19 beds in hospitals including JNIMS.
The Department is taking up all necessary actions for the same, he said.
Considering the surge in cases, the Department is also discussing the possibility of providing COVID-19 treatment at non-COVID care centres.
As fever and common cold are common in the winter season, Ranjan said people should take extra precaution and follow the COVID-19 safety guidelines.
As there is no treatment for COVID-19 available in the country yet, the best way to defeat the virus is to avoid the virus by maintaining personal hygiene, maintaining physical distance and wearing face masks, he added.
Meanwhile, sources said distribution of the medicines have started late evening today at Imphal West and Imphal East.
