Imphal, October 15 2020:
The Naga Students' Union Chandel (NSUC) has demanded the State Government to depute specialist doctors and install TrueNat machine and other required medical equipments at the District Hospital Chandel at the earliest.
NSUC in a press release said it is deep anguish over the State Government's lack of interest and total negligence towards the District Hospital, Chandel.
Although it is the only health care centre in the headquarter, it is on the verge of complete breakdown due to insufficient specialist doctors and medical staff, NSUC said.
"There are no specialist doctors, no orthopaedic specialist, no radiologist and also insufficient medical officers and staff," it said.
"Just recently the lone Gyne doctor posted at the hospital has been transferred without sending a replacement," it further said.
District Hospital Chandel is now known as "refer hospital" by the locals as it always refers patients with serious illness to hospitals in Imphal due to absence of specialist doctors and also due to unavailability of advance medical equipments, NSUC said.
The State Government has also failed to provide TrueNat machine for the district even after giving numerous assurances for early installation of the machine.
All districts in the State has it except for Chandel, it said.
The NSUC strongly urged the State Government to depute specialist doctors and install TrueNat machine and other required medical equipments within 5 days period.
Failing which the union will launch various forms of agaitation, it added.
