CCpur, May 14 2021:
The second wave of the deadly Coronavirus has started to take a toll on human lives as two members of a family at Muallum village in Singngat sub-division died within a span of 4 days, forcing the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and the Medical Department to take sweeping actions to contain the spread within the village.
Yesterday a 30-year-old man identified as Hauminlian died of breathing difficulties, barely three days after his mother Zamngai died of similar symptoms.
Worried about the back-to-back death from a family, villagers reportedly informed local authorities about the incident prompting the Sub-Divisional Magistrate to send medical teams from Singngat CHC to ascertain the cause of death before the body was buried.
The medical team soon confirmed that Hauminlian was Covid-19 positive.
They then tested 15 people from the deceased family and people who are close to them, of which 3 returned positive.
A mother-daughter duo left behind by Hauminlian along with his sister were among those tested, said a source.
With the alarming development at Muallum village, the Medical Department has begun measures to contain the spread of the contagion amongst the villagers as they had initially considered Asthma as the cause of death.
A team from the district Medical Department today visited the village again to trace any possible spread of the virus and conducted tests on about 40 villagers.
Of these 2 samples reportedly returned positive.
Located at a very strategic location about 50 kms from Churachandpur district headquarters, Muallum was in the news during the first wave last year but on a lighter note.
A man from the village had boarded a bus carrying returnees from outside the State who are to be quarantined at a designated quarantine centre in Singngat.
He was left with no choice but spend the next 14 days in quarantine centre alongside the returnees.
