Imphal, September 12 2016:
Taking serious note of the news report which alleged that the Army had been actively engaged in bringing in non-local labourers into the State, PIB (Defence Wing) has refuted the allegations and said that the Army does not take up any construction work directly involving labourers.
All their construction projects are undertaken through open contracts, wherein the contractors are responsible for hiring the labourers, it added.
The contractors arrange labour on their own, based on their skill, availability and reliability.
These could be either locals and non-locals or a mix of both, added PIB.
No labourer is employed on a permanent basis.
On completion of the projects the contractors demobilise the labourer who return to their native places, the statement added.
The PIB (DW) also expressed its indignation over the malicious nature of reporting, urging to use proper diligence and avoid publishing unverified news and using inappropriate language against a professional organisation, which has made enormous sacrifices to usher in peace.
Those sermonising from across the border, should rather be encouraged to join the mainstream and contribute towards the welfare of the society, it added.
