Ibendhou Imoinu Association, Keishamthong Thangjam Leirak feted India Oinam, who has been selected as one of the 10 National Innovators by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Ministry of Human Resource Development, at a reception function held at her Pishumthong residence today.
Indira is the secretary of Women's Income Generation Centre (WIGC), Thoubal.
She said that she was declared as one of the National Innovators at Innovation Summit 2016 .
Indira said that most of the award winners are working in fields like tissue culture, solar energy, handicraft and mobile phone upgradation etc.
Saying that she was selected for her works in handicrafts, Indira said that the Centre provides funds to North East States, which have the potential of large scale production of the items made of Kouna (reed) and cane.
Indira said that WIGC has been organising skill development programmes with the funds from the Central Government for needy youth and women to help them generate income.
The recent award was conferred on her as a recognition of her works towards giving livelihood to poor people, she said.
State Social Welfare Board former Chairman S Satyabhama and social activist Haridas also attended the function.
