Imphal, June 12: The All Manipur Students� Union (AMSU) has strongly condemned the statement of the so-called South Nagas Union of Nagaland State (SNUNS) which appeared in some local dailies.

In his statement, one C Daipao, General secretary, SNUNS, had said that the Meiteis of Manipur have no right to denounce the extension of cease-fire between the government of India and the NSCN(IM) as the demands of the NSCN(IM) do not affect their land and people because it would remain confined only in the Naga inhabited areas.

Reacting to this statement, general secretary of AMSU, CS Khongsai today stated that AMSU would like to teach C Daipao, general secretary, SNUNS and his organization a good lesson to know the fact that Manipur is made up with not only the Meiteis but also the whole people/communities living within the territorial boundary of Manipur.

Pointing out that the Meiteis or any other group of people in Manipur are not trying to sabotage the ongoing peace process nor suppress the Nagas of Manipur, Khongsai said, rather the AMSU welcome the peace talks between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) but only opposes the extension of ceasefire in Manipur.

Because the AMSU is trying hard to bring about peace and harmony in the entire North Eastern region in particular and the whole of India in general.

The AMSU is very much concerned with Manipur�s territorial boundary in the interest of the entire communities living in it, and strongly opposes the extension of cease-fire in Manipur or neighbouring state because of the fact that there�s no such land as having been allotted to the Nagas, Kukis, Meiteis or Meitei Pangals in Manipur, and the land which they (Nagas) claim as their inhabited areas is also land of the Meiteis, Kukis, Nagas and Meitei Pangals, the general secretary said.

The AMSU appealed to all sections of Nagas to ponder upon the matter rationally and not to crate political chaos within the North East India, which would result in futility despite hard efforts.

Instead, neighbouring states should go together so as to bring communal harmony and development in the NE states.
