Earlier at about 6.40 last night, goods laden trucks heading towards Imphal from Mao with security escorts were attacked by blockade supporters using stones and guns at five different points.
More than 10 oil tankers had their windshields and tyres damaged due to the attacks.
Altogether 249 vehicles including 75 oil tankers, 32 LPG carriers and 142 trucks loaded with grocery items were coming to Imphal amidst security escorts from Mao gate.
The security escorts comprising of IRB and MR personnel were travelling in four vehicles.
On their journey to Imphal, the vehicles were attacked by blockade supporters by pelting stones at five different points, the first one at a spot just half a kilometre away from Mao, Tadubi, Karong and Senapati.
As the vehicles approached Kangpokpi, another group of blockade supporters fired several rounds towards the vehicles.
In the multiple attack, wind-shields of several trucks were damaged and a tyre of an oil tanker burst.
However, there was no human casualty.
All the vehicles arrived at Imphal at about 4.30 am today.
Meanwhile, another 50 loaded trucks and one oil tanker were brought to Imphal by security escorts this evening.
On the other hand, taking serious note of the disruptive activities of blockade supporters, SP Senapati has instructed all the security outposts located along NH 39 under Senapati district to take up extra security measures.
While demanding adequate security escorts, the All Manipur Petroleum Tanker Drivers' Union has appealed to the Govt to bring an amicable solution with the agitating bodies.
