Imphal, November 19:
A new traffic regulation has been enforced to help the police, traffic police and other agencies not only to regulate the flow of traffic but also to help prevent criminal activities in the commercial areas of Imphal.
Announcing this in a statement, SP of Imphal West, Clay Khongsai said that under section of the Police Act 1861, entry of four wheelers, three wheelers including rickshaws has been regulated at several places at Paona bazar and Thangal bazar.
However people residing at the bazar areas and shop keepers, medical staff, school vans etc will be issued entry pass, said the SP and added that they may contact his office.
The new regulation will be in force till time of completion of the BT fly over, the Ima Keithels, laying of pipes for the Imphal Sewerage project and construction of the roads.
Asserting that there is traffic chaos at BT road, Ima Keithel and Thangal bazar due to the construction of the BT flyover, the SP explained that the same condition also exists at BT road, Paona bazar, Thanga bazar road, road behind the Raj Bhawan, Assembly road, road leading to Khoyathong, road connecting Assembly and MG Avenue, road near the Family Welfare office due to the laying of pipe lines for the Sewerage Project.
It has become extremely difficult for the traffic police to regulate the traffic flow, said the SP and added that some unwanted elements, including militants are taking undue advantage of the situation to carry out their agenda in the bazar area.
The mobility of the District Police too has been greatly impaired because of the incomplete projects.
