Imphal, January 17 2014 :
Compared to other essential departments in the State Manipur Postal Division still remains the best, claimed Manipur Postal Service director T Mangminthang, who nevertheless noted that there are still rooms for improvement.
Talking to The Sangai Express, T Mangminthang said irrespective of complaints from a handful of customers about loss of items/articles or belated delivery service rendered by the Division has been satisfactory till date.
Observing that some Government departments such as Electricity and Transport neither able to provide regular power supply nor successful in improving road conditions inspite of tremendous responsibilities are part and parcel of Manipuri society, the Director explained that the Division has been comparatively efficient and living upto the people's expectation.
When reminded that two complaints regarding certain individuals missing out on important assignment due to delay in delivery of their documents were published in newspapers, Mangmingthang explained that many people still relying on Manipur Postal Division for conveyance of both goods and documents testify competency and dependability of the postal service.
Postal service being one of the largest organisations of the Central Government has the advantage of 'last mile delivery' which other courier service do not command, said the Director asserting that companies of e-commerce mainly depend/rely on speed post and not any other private service providers.
Citing weightage factor constraining re-routing shipment of goods through trains for certain issues regarding delay in delivery of articles, he said such a problem is unavoidable.
Evading a direct reply on steps to ensure that the Division has no complaints from the customers, Mangminthang said the Division having well-qualified personnel is the primary reason for minimal distraction from the customers.
When queried whether sprouting of private courier service agencies in the State is any indication that the people have been gradually feeling insecure to rely on the Division, the Director dismissed such an impression as unwarranted and misconception.
Stating that 'track and trace' system initiated by the Postal Service in the last five years has enabled the Division to function more efficiently, he also confided that plans are afoot to launch technologically advanced projects like ATM, call banking and e-transfer of money.
