Imphal, March 24 2012:
Expressing serious concerned over the plight of over 10,000 people living with HIV/AIDS (on ART prescription following shut down of ART centres on account of the cease-work strike launched by contractual staffs of MACS, Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) has drawn the attention of the state government for intervention in arriving at an amicable solution at the earliest in the interest of suffering patients.
In a statement, Secretary Publicity and Propaganda of HERICOUN L Sanajaoba Meitei observed that the demand of the contractual staffs of MACS may be justifiable but putting the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS at stake in pursuance of the demand is not advisable.
The agitators should withdraw their present stand and adopt some other alternative measures to press the demand.
All those who are working for the welfare of people living with HIV/AIDS including MACS and its affiliated NGOs should also carry out their services with a sense of dedication and not forget the fact that it is because of these people living with HIV/AIDS that MACS and other affiliated NGOs are existing in the state, Sanajaoba pointed out.
Urging the state government for a long term policy to ensure such confrontations that put the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS at risk, Sanajaoba also questioned the sincerity of the government in tackling the problem of HIV/AIDS in Manipur in the light of the fact that when the fund provided from various funding agencies are being only, the government has not set aside any fund for the purpose in its budget allocation.
Nirvana Foundation has also called upon all concerned for resolving the present deadlock at the earliest possible.
