Imphal, January 20, 2012::
Governor of Manipur Gurbachan Jagat has greeted the people of the state on the occasion of Manipur's Statehood Day.
In his message, Jagat recalled that 40 years ago on January 21, 1972, Manipur attained its statehood and the day, besides fulfilling a long cherished desire of the people of Manipur, gave an added responsibility as well as an opportunity to the people to shape their own destiny.
The Governor said that no one can deny the fact that the state is lagging behind other developed states of the country, so far as overall development is concerned.
Hence, there is the need to catch up on lost opportunities and hasten the process of growth and development in our state.
Development can be accelerated only when there is complete peace and harmony.
"I am confident that the people of Manipur, cutting across barriers of caste, creed, language and religion, would raise above all parochial considerations and work unitedly, so as to achieve a more prosperous and peaceful Manipur.
In this effort all should contribute their best in achieving peace and stability in our state", the Governor exhorted, while extending his heartiest greetings and best wishes to all the people of the state.
