Rumour Over UG Clash : Panic throws life out of gear in Tamenglong

Tamenglong, October 08 2012:
Panic reigned in Tamenglong district headquarters today.
Educational institutions and offices too did not function properly.
Parents were seen rushing to their respective wards' schools to take their children home back.
In a sudden move, shops too downed their shutters from 9 am.
Apprehension of the repeat of the October 2 flare-up has been the cause for the chaos today.
It all began with the rumours that another clash between the ZUF-NSCN-K combined with the NSCN-IM would take place this morning.
It was speculated that the NSCN-IM cadres were on their way to attack the rival groups.
As the speculations were rife, ZUF-NSCN-K cadres asked residents at the Piggery Farm area of the district headquarters to vacate the place as the clash with the rival NSCN-IM is imminent.
The residents obliged and the vacated the area instantly.
School and college going students were also asked to return home by the ZUF-NSCN-K cadres saying that risk was very high if clash breaks out.
So, the students obliged.
Seeing the panic parents fetching their wards from the schools, shop keepers too in a swift move closed down their shutters.
The Tamenglong bazar looked cold and dry after the business establishment came to a grinding halt.
Panic office goers too returned back to their homesteads.
As the news of the development spread, wild rumour mongers were at their best minting stories.
And this compounded the already highly charged atmosphere.
Concerned organisations perched in vehicles used loud speakers asking the militants not to do anything that hurts the public sentiment.
The announcers in loud speakers in a whirlwind move touched every locality.
To many, today's scene in Tamenglong was a reminder of the war-torn Hollywood movies.
On October 4, the public had passed a resolution that all militant organisations in Tamenglong district would cease to enjoy public co-operation, stop payment of 'taxes' and no militants should be allowed to stay in the Tamenglong district headquarters.
The resolutions were taken by the general public at Tamenglong district headquarters in the aftermath of the killing of a civilian in the cross fire between Naga militant groups on October 2 .
The public meeting had also resolved that the NSCN-IM should compensate Rs 50 lakh to Jaikanlung Gangmei's family, a 40 year old carpenter killed in the cross fire of the factional clash on the fateful day.
The NSCN-K and the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) had also been asked to pay Rs 40 lakh jointly to the late carpenter's kins as compensation.
The family members of Jaikanlung and the public had concluded that it was the NSCN-IM's bullet that had hit the carpenter and hence, the NSCN-IM had been asked to dole out more as per the October 4 public resolution.
The JAC then had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of the district wherein it demanded to "see" that no militants sneak into the district headquarters.
In a read-between-the-line language, the JAC demanded in the memorandum that the state government should "see" as the militants "come in different route".
But did not mention the name of the route the militants use.
The JAC also demanded that a government job be given to Thonbuiliu, wife of late Jaikanlung.
It further demanded to compensate Meidiyang whose house was partly damaged by an explosion during the clash of the militant outfits on October 2 .
