Lecture on Cyber Crime

Imphal, April 06 2018: A one day lecture program on 'Cyber crime and electronic evidence: General aspect' was held at Manipur High Court Auditorium hall today, as a part of the 5th Anniversary of High Court ofManipur.

The lecture program was attended by Acting Chief Justice N Kotiswar, Justice Kh Nobin High Court of Manipur, A Guneshwar Sharma Registrar General High Court of Manipu r and A Buboo Singh (Scientist/Academic), Joint Director NIELIT, as presidium members.

Speaking at the event, Acting Chief Justice N Kotiswar said that the most of the victims of cyber crime are generally women and the number of cyber crime related cases has also been increasing in the State.

Often, the perpetrator of such crimes are under the notion that they can escape easily so it is the duty of the prosecution to collect all the electronic evidence used in committing the crime and produce them before the Court.

Speaking as a resource person, A Buboo Singh said that any crime which is committed using an electronic device or a computer is considered a cyber crime.

After the State Cyber crime Police Station became operational from last year onward, it has extended co-operation in various cases and has aided in digging up various digital evidence.

It has also organised numerous programs and workshops on cyber crime in the State.

He explained that even if one deletes evidence of a crime from any electronic device/computer, the said information can be restored and collected which can then be used as evidence in the case apart from finding out the source from where it originated, he said.

A number of cyber crime cases have been recorded including on-line fraud case regarding job offers and others as well.

India ranks low in the registration of cyber crime cases in the world and it might be due to the lack of awareness among the people and crimes committed using information technology is increasing day by day, he added.
