Replacement of BDO Khengjoi demanded

Charging the Block Development Officer (BDO), Khengjoi of misusing huge amount of funds provided under MGNREGS, Thadou Students' Association (TSA) Chandel district and KSO, Khengjoi Block have demanded replacement of the BDO by December 15 .
A memorandum in this regard was submitted to the Chief Minister today by volunteers of TSA and KSO, threatening to go ahead with intense agitations if the government fails to comply with the demand.
Addressing media persons in this regard at Manipur Press Club here today, Thongkhovum Khongsai, President of TSA, alleged that Md Najimuddin, BDO of Khengjoi Block, has been deducting funds at the rate of 5% from the wages of MGNREGS job card holders of Khengjoi Block for the last 5 years.
The deducted amount would come to around Rs 1,67,96,614 by now.
In addition to this, the BDO also deducted an amount of Rs 13000 each from all the village chiefs of 134 villages in Khengoi Block for a mere camera which actually cost Rs 7990, for taking photographs during execution of MGNREGS works, thereby making a profit of around Rs 7,42,500, the student leader further charged.
He also informed that the office of BDO is being run from the residence of Md Najimuddin at Khergao where all the office equipments like tables, chairs and computers are being kept for private use.
When the funds for MGNREGS are to be withdrawn, the BDO collects the signatures of village chiefs on blank cheques and hand them with cash at the spot.
Considering the problems faced by the people of Khengjoi Block due to the misconducts of Md Najimuddin , a memorandum has been submitted to the CM pressing him to replaced the BDO by December 15 failing which intense agitation would be a taken up by TSA and KSO.
Ngamlei Taothang, VP of KSA was also present at the press conference.
