Kakching, December 06 2012:
Keeping in mind the hardships faced by CSWs who have landed into the trade unwillingly, the government is planning special initiatives for their rehabilitation and reintegration to the mainstream, said Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai today.
She was speaking as Chief Guest of the District Level Widows' Meet held at the Community Hall of Khangshim Village, Chandel today.
The Minister said that widows should not feel inferior but always keep in mind that nothing is impossible to a determined person.
She further said that even though they may have lost hope, widows should have perseverance for the sake of their children.
Social Welfare Department is providing various assistances to widows in both plains and hills.
However, the government is facing some difficulties in implementing the projects since the state is an economically backward state and it depends on the Centre for almost every project.
Unfortunately, some vested interested persons are spreading rumours of the government and its department treating the hills and plains with different outlooks and opportunities, Mirabai said, and added that such rumours should not disturb the mindsets of the people in the hills and they should know that the government does not differentiate among the people in plains and hills and the different communities.
If any official is found guilty of such acts and misconduct, people should inform the concerned ministers so that appropriate action could be initiated against such officials, she said.
The Widows' meet was organized by District Women's Committee, UNM-M Chandel in association with Weaker Sections' Development Council, Centre for Women and Girls, Widows Welfare Society, Rural Women and Child Development Organisation and All Tribal Women's Organisation.
DC Chandel Ch Chittaranjan and MLA D K Korungthang attended the inaugural function of the meet as President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Around 180 widows from different parts of Chandel district, who were present on the occasion, were honoured with simple gifts by the organisers.
