Jiribam, June 22 2018:
Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) Jiribam has strongly condemned the Education Department and the State Government for its apathy and lack of seriousness in improving the educational environment and infrastructures in the Government schools in the district and in the State at large.
The association was appalled at the conditions and situations of the schools it has visited and inspected, said a statement of the vice president KSA Jiribam Council Y Chalamba Meitei on Friday.
The KSA Jiribam had on Jun 20 and 21 inspected two schools - Netaji High School and Borobekra Higher Secondary School in the district.
The schools were found to have serious problems with shortage of teachers, said the association.
The association found no students at Netaji High School when they visited.
With shortage of teachers to take classes in the school, the three available teachers were able to take only one or two classes and had to send away the students home early, KSA said in its statement.
The school currently has seven teachers.
Two have been utilized and another two are on leave.
It is unfortunate that there are only three teachers to teach more than 300 students of the school, KSA said.
What was most appalling was that the Headmaster of the school was found to have been utilzed at the ZEO of the zone, said KSA and questioned the authorities concerned if the school can run efficiently and grow without a Headmaster who is responsible for the welfare of the school.
Concerned over the issues at the school, KSA warned the Government that it will ban the functioning of the school if the department concerned and the Government failed to address the issues at the earliest.
On inspection it has conducted at Borobekra Higher Secondary School in Borobekra, Jiribam, the KSA said that the school is facing teacher shortage.
According to the statement of the KSA, three teachers have been transferred to other schools and two have been utilized.
The Principal of the school has expressed concerned over the shortage of teachers at the school, said KSA.
Meanwhile, citing lack of adequate lecturers in the Manipuri Department of Jiribam Higher Secondary School, the association has also appealed the concerned department to send back a lecturer who was transferred from the school.
The Government and the concerned department should send adequate teachers at these schools and other schools in the interest of the future of the students and the State, said KSA in its statement and urged for a speedy solutions to the problems.
