Kunjo was an MLA elected on the ticket of Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee to the current 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Out of the three aspirants vying for ticket to contest the by-election as BJP candidate, a joint meeting of the National Parliamentary Board and National Election Committee of the party held at New Delhi this afternoon decided to give the party ticket to Maibam Dhanbir, son of late Maibam Kunjo, according to a report filed by Newmai News Network (NNN), which quoted general secretary of BJP Manipur Pradesh M Ashwinikumar as saying from the national capital.
