Villagers take shelter at relief camp

Jiribam, February 17 2019:
Alleging that some arm miscreants suspected to be Hmar from K Bathel Punjiare continuously threatening and making monetary demands to the villagers of Bhubol Khal Punji, Lakhipur, Cachar, Assam, altogether 42 individuals including 15 children of 9 families from the said village took shelter in a relief camp at Goakhal, Borobekra sub division, Jiribam district today after fleeing from their village.
Speaking to media person, Katirong (38), who is taking shelter at Goakhal camp, said they fled their village because the miscreants threatened them of dire consequences if they fail to arrange Rs 20,000 by this noon (12 pm).
Saying that similar incidents have happened in the past too, she added that they would not return to the their village till the concerned authorities took up concrete measures to solve the problem.
A volunteers of Borobekra Sub division Development Organisation is also extending their helping hands to the refugees.
A team of Borobekra police have also filed a report regarding the matter.
