Delivering the key note address of the function, Abul Kalam, Archivist, said that in a survey conducted by the State Archives at Kwatha, it was able to trace a number of old manuscripts.
The workshop is being organized in order to preserve and conserve the old manuscripts found in Kwatha.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr K Sobita said that it is important and necessary to preserve the old manuscripts found in Kwatha.
Although there are a number of ancient manuscripts in Kwatha, the people of the area seldom bring out the manuscripts.
If the ancient manuscripts are not kept in a proper way, they will be destroyed in due course of time.
As such proper awareness in regard to the conservation of ancient manuscripts should be given to the villagers of Kwatha.
The village also needs to be developed into a tourist spot.
To protect the village from withering away, minute reports of the village needs to be collected and submitted to the government and can be further developed under the Ancient Manuscripts and Historical Remains Act.
An exhibition of ancient manuscripts including 60 old manuscripts from the State Archives and some other old manuscripts brought out by the villagers of Kwatha was also held on the occasion.
The function was also attended by Dr N Birchandra, Associate Prof, Lilong Haoreibi College, M Naodalenkhomba, retired Superintendent, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and Associate Prof, Dr Saied Ahmad as resource persons.
