Lamka, October 08 2012: The State's second biggest township beginning next week will enforce compulsory helmet for driving two wheelers in a bid to check the number of fatal mishaps that occur almost ever alternate day.

Records available with the local dailies here indicated that there are around one hundred-and-fifty motor vehicle related deaths within the current year alone with a majority of them involving two-wheelers.

As the mishap mortality rate reached an alarming proportion, the district administration has last week decided to strictly enforce 'compulsory helmet' for those driving two-wheelers within the township.

According to the order that also comes up with a new set of traffic norms, the order will be effective from Wednesday, October 17 next.

One-way traffic within the town's twin markets, new parking slots for passenger vehicles and no-parking zone are the other new labels that will be implemented in the new norms.

Autumn marks the onset of Churachandpur's only festive season and the traffic through winter usually was chaotic.

The upsurge in vehicles, which according to the transport office figure was always above seventy even in the lean period have made matters worse, making both the people trolling through the street and those driving motors susceptible to mishaps.
