M Nabakishore and S Indrakumar to be honoured with "Writer of the year 2020" award

Imphal, July 08 2020: Naharal Sahitya Premee Samiti, Imphal will be honouring two well acclaimed Manipuri writers with "Writer(s) of the year 2020" award as part of the "Writers' Day" which is observed annually to mark the foundation of the association on July 17 .

As per the statement of the samiti/ association, the two writers who were shortlisted for the prestigious award on account of the diamond jubilee foundation day celebration of samiti are Maibam Nabakishore Singh and Sagolshem Indrakumar Singh.

They will be receiving cash incentives apart from a shawl and citations, it said.

Maibam Nabakishore, born in the year 1980 at Hiyanglam Mayai Leikai, is a well known short story writer.

Nabakishore, who also writes poems, had published more than 9 books and had received many accolades including 'Manipur State Kala Sahitya Akademi Award 2003' and 'National Sahitya Akademi Award 2005' .

Sagolshem Indrakumar, on the other hand, is a veteran song and drama artist at AIR Imphal.

Indrakumar, born in 1941 at Thangmeiband Khuyathong is also a lyricist who also had written and narrated many stories for children at the AIR Imphal.

His work also includes dramas adapted from famous novels of Manipur Literature.

NCERT has honoured him for his books for children at various National level competitions.

He have also received "Bal Sahitya Purashkar" of Sahitya Akademi.

The foundation day celebration which falls on July 17 has been deferred due to prohibitory orders in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic and will be held later when the situation permits, it said.

Many renowned writers from the State and other parts of the country have been honoured with the award since its institution in the year 2000, the statement added.
