Imphal, August 04 2017:
Namkaolong (Keikao) Village Authority, Tamenglong has refuted the allegation made by chairman of Khongsang village through the media that Keikao villagers encroached land belonging to Khongsang village .
Addressing a press meet here at Manipur Press Club today, Kakangam Panmei, chairman of Keikao village clarified that Keikao villagers had never encroached on Khongsang village land .
He claimed that the villagers have been living in the village as truthful owners and possessors since time immemorial .
While the villagers were living peacefully, the neighbouring village namely Tinjang village claimed for possession and ownership.
As such there was a long series of litigation between the two chiefs of the two villages in the civil Courts and Gauhati High Court since 1991 in which chairman of Keikao village succeeded, he contended .
He reiterated that in 2014 the civil Court of Tamenglong had granted injunction in favour of Keikao village chief restraining the chairman of Khongsang and his parties from entering Keikao village and not to cause any kind of disturbance to the peaceful possession by the villagers .
He said that at present there is a case pending in High Court of Manipur for final hearing and thus the allegation made by chairman of Khongsang village in a press meet held on July 29 last is subjudice .
He also reminded that in a case of compensation for acquisition of some parts of Keikao village, Deputy Collector, Tamenglong in compliance of the order passed by the High Court had disbursed the compensation amount in respect of Tamenglong-Khongsang road in Tinjang village in favour of Keikao villagers .
The compensation was duly received by the villagers who are the rightful owners, he added .
Terming the allegation as a false testimony and propaganda to gain benefits, the village chairman said that those village authorities who have been carried away by the "deceitful tactics" of the chairman of Khongsang village would also the truth in due course of time .
Keikao villagers are peace loving people and who never intend to grab properties of other villages.
The villagers always strive for peaceful co-existence and harmony for social upliftment and development in the area, the village chairman added.
