Many houses, paddy fields submerged

Torrential rainfall witnessed in the state in the past few days have resulted in floods in various places of the state submerging vast areas of agricultural lands and damaging many houses.
Vast areas in Konthoujam and Nambol ACs have been flooded due to the incessant rains.
MLA Konthoujam AC Konthoujam Sarat today inspected the flooded areas in his constituency and distributed aid to the affected people.
He also discussed the gravity of the situation with the people and assured to help them in every possible way.
Talking to reporters, Sarat said that Konthoujam AC has become the most flood prone area in the state.
People in the area have been subjected to floods every year in the past few years.
Unfortunately, the state government is doing nothing to redress the inconveniences of the people of the area.
Leimakhong, Maklang and Langdai rivers in the area are prone to overflowing since the river banks are low compared to other rivers.
Flood water have entered about 100 houses of Kha Jiri Mamang Leikai, 35 houses in Kha Jiri Maning Leikai leaving the areas submerged.
Moreover around 5000 paris of agricultural land have also been submerged by flood waters.
Affected people have been taking shelter in community halls.
In the same time as many as 150 houses and vast areas of agricultural lands in Nambol AC have also been submerged by flood waters.
Villagers have complained that local MLA, N Loken has been ignorant of the matter and not paid any attention to the grave matter.
They said, Nambol SDO too have turned a blind eye to the situation and the inconveniences being faced by the affected people.
In order to give some relief, Nambol Kongkham Food Relief Committee contributed money and distributed rice to the flood affected people.
People of the area drew the attention of the state government into the matter.
Meanwhile, the retaining wall along the Imphal River at Mayang Imphal, Maibam Konjil area has collapsed at a length of around 20 feet.
It may be mentioned that the retaining wall was completed only three months ago.
It was constructed by the IFCD to control overflowing of water in the area.
The collapse of the retaining wall let to a panic among the people.
