Imphal, March 27 2012:
Contending that the March 22 gangrape of a housewife at Keinou area is a testimony of failure of the newly re-installed Congress Government in Manipur, the armed United Revolutionary Front, Manipur has asserted that the four accused persons deserved the most stringent form of punishment.
A URF statement issued by its information and publicity secretary AK Pibarel construed that involvement of IRB personnel Hav Chungkham Ibocha and Rifleman Kshetrimayum Kenedy reaffirms that security forces operating in Manipur have no respect for the citizens and consider the womenfolk as mere commodities.
Even though the two IRB personnel and co-accused Laikhuram Rojit and Salam Bijen were fortunate enough to be in the safe custody of the police the people should take the leading role to ensure that all the four do not escape the most stringent form of punishment when they come out of jail.
While calling upon the hill people to relentlessly pursue the case for punishing the culprits, Pibarel expressed that even though parents of the rapists need not be blamed for their sons disgracing the family they (parents) too have to shoulder the burden for their sons' heinous acts.
