Imphal, July 01 2012:
In yet another milestone for four decades old RIMS, Dental College of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal will be inaugurated shortly as the Central Government has given the relevant permission for the opening of the college.
The RIMS authority is in constant touch with Manipur University officials in this regard, RIMS media adviser informed in a statement.
The intake capacity would be 50 students per year from the North Eastern States excluding Assam.
Manipur, being the host State, is likely to get a substantial number of seats.
Besides, some seats are reserved for the children of RIMS employees.
It would be of great help to the students of Manipur who are willing to undergo Dental studies.
Unlike private colleges where huge capitation, hostel and other fees are required for a student, the fees at Dental College of RIMS will be very nominal, the state-ment said.
There was inordinate delay in obtaining the permission since the relevant file was closed in 2010 in the Union Health Ministry.
However, Prof N Damayanti, member of the Dental College Development Committee personally contacted the Ministry and left no stone unturned to expedite the matter.
A senior specialist, Prof RR Singh is already in Imphal.
Besides, Prof N Nabachandra, a former head of Dental department of RIMS has contributed his mites to the spade works of the Dental College.
As of now, all infrastructures are being acquired and permanent buildings are under construction.
The admission of the third batch of the students of the College of Nursing would soon be started, it added.
