13-yr-old boy escapes from abductors' clutch

Amid heightened tension over the recent spate of abduction of children and their disappearances, a young boy studying in class VIII reportedly managed to escape from the clutches of his abductors.
13-year old Yaithengbam Bhopendro alias Lalan s/o Yaithengbam Sanjit and Rita of Haobam Marak Chingtham Leikai under Singjamei Police Station managed to escape after being forced inside a Van and taken by five unidentified persons from near Heirangoithong.
The eldest son of two children born to the couple, Bhopendro alias Lalan is a student of class VIII in Scholar English Academy, Heirangoithong.
Recounting his ordeal to mediapersons, Bhopendra informed that at around 6.30 pm yesterday, he was coming out to wait for his mother, who sells goods at Keishampat Bus Parking, to return home.
After meeting his mother near the road crossing of Heirangoithong Oil Pump, he asked for Rs 50 for buying a book on Meetei Mayek but she did not give.
So, he decided to go to the house of his friend Surjit at Heirangoithong to borrow the book.
As Surjit was not home, he was returning home alone when he saw a Maruti Van waiting near Heirangoithong Tongbram Leirak Machin.
As he was walking nearby, one man came out of the Van on the pretext of asking the some questions and put a hankerchief over his month and pushed him inside the Van.
From there the Van sped off towards Keisham Leikai, Pishum and Wahengbam Leikai.
There were in all four five unidentified men inside the Van and they blind-folded him and tied the hands from behind.
After driving the Van for some time, the unidentified men untied his hands and pushed him out of the moving vehicle.
When the blind-fold was removed, he came to know it was Wahengbam Leikai area, Bhopendra informed, adding that among his abductors; some of them did not speak Meeteilon properly.
Sanjit, father of Bhopendra has appealed to the authority concerned for taking up necessary steps to prevent such incidents of abducting young children.
