Farmer assaulted at Nungshai Tairenpokpi village

Imphal, August 23 2012:
A 75 year old man who was working as a cultivator at Nungshai Tairenpokpi village under Khoupum police station in Tamenglong district was assaulted grievously by some unidentified armed persons.
The victim has been identified as Sanasam Tomba (75) of Bishnupur Ward No 7 but staying at Nungshai Tairenpokpi.
Tomba said that some people came from the side of neighbouring Zoujengtak village to his farm hut last morning and asked him to leave the village by next Sunday.
The same intimation was conveyed to Nungsai Tairenpokpi village chief Poujanglung Gonmei.
A this, Gonmei said that the land does not belong to them and he (Tomba) can stay there.
With due permission of the village chief, Tomba has been living there since the last 7/8 years working as a cultivator in the chief's farm.
He was severely assaulted by some 15/16 armed persons who included men in combat fatigue as well as plain clothes at about 10 pm yesterday.
Not satisfied with the thrashing, Tomba was pushed down a gorge with an intention to kill him.
Tomba lay there unconscious the whole night.
The village chief's son found him only this morning and he took Tomba home on his back.
Finally, Tomba reached RIMS at about 5 pm today.
The armed persons not only thrashed Tomba blue and black, they also slaughtered his chickens and dog.
They also damaged his hut.
