A one-day seminar on "Education of Muslim Girls: Opportunities and Challenges" was held today at Kuki Inn here under the aegis of the All Manipur Muslim Girl Students' Union.
Former Speaker Dr Maniruddin Sheikh, social activist Dr Dhanabir Laishram, social worker AR Khan, State Nodal Officer of National Tobacco Control Programme Dr Konsam Komolini, DDK Imphal Assistant News Editor Ch Birendra and woman activist Sitara Begum attended the seminar as presidium members.
Speaking at the inaugural session, president of the All Manipur Muslim Girl Students' Union Rakshar Chowdhary said that a seven-member team of the union made a field survey in different parts of Manipur recently.
The survey found many Muslim girls not attending schools due to poverty while many were found quite worried thinking that they would not allowed to pursue their studies further after class X or class XII.
Many others did not get formal education due to unavailability of necessary infrastructure.
Rakshar Chowdhary said that recommendations adopted at the seminar would be forwarded to the Central Government as well as the State Government.
