Imphal, April 18 2011:
The wife of Power Minister T Phungzathang who expired early yesterday at their residence in Paite Veng, Imphal was laid to rest today at their private premises here with a consummate tribute following a prolong illness.
Chhungi, also known as Sungi (65) was diagnosed with an advance stage cancer in early January, according to family sources.
As her condition deteriorated, she was taken to Delhi from Imphal in a chartered flight and subsequently to the United States in the past four months but her condition worsened despite the treatment.
Ultimately her family brought her home with life-supporting technologies in a special US air-ambulance and landed at Imphal on 14 April.
Three days after she was rested at her residence she breathed her last on April 17, at around 8.30 am under the custody of medical staff from Apollo Hospital, New Delhi.
Her lifeless body was taken to her husband's home Constituency, Churachandpur today with an impressive motorcade rallying behind her and the locals offering an unmatched tribute to the lady.
T Phugzathang struggled to hold back his emotion in many instances throughout their journey and at the condolence service.
