Police foil plan to trigger blast on HM visit arms cache, explosives recovered

Imphal, May 11 2011:
Police foiled a terror bid when it seized a huge cache of arms and explosives including 2.2 kg of TNT explosive from a pick up truck and arrested two PLA cadres during a cordoned off search in Imphal area last night.
Two PLA/RPF cadres, Moirangthem Bheigya aka Chaoba (55) of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai and Potshangbam Brojen aka Koba (50) of Kwakeithel Moirangpurel were arrested last night around 10 pm by a team of Imphal West police commandos under the supervision of the Imphal West additional SP.
Bheigya was arrested first with the recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition from his residence which included, 2.2 kg of TNT, a grenade, a wireless handset (YAESU), a mobile phone, two id cards, one issued by the state electricity department among others.
On further interrogation of Bheigya, police arrested Brojen from his residence at Kwakeithel Moirang Purel Leikai and recovered a 9 mm pistol, 25 rounds of ammunition and three Chinese hand grenades.
According to Addl SP, AK Jhalajit, the police arrested the two consequent to an extensive combing operation and cordoned off search operation launched by Imphal West police commandos yesterday at strategic places in Imphal area in connection with the visit of Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram.
Both of them were working under self-styled PLA Sergeant Robertson who reportedly instructed them to carry out a massive bomb ambush on security forces, said Addl SP, Ak Jhalajit in a press briefing today.
The two were in constant contact with top leaders of the RPF/PLA like Shanangou, Prabin, Loya, Bony, Krishna and Ranbir etc.
who were staying in Guwahati and Myanmar separately and engaged in transfer of money from one place to another for the maintenance of their frontal organisations, he claimed.
Jhalajit further disclosed that Bheigya is serving as a SBA in the state Electricity Department under a fake name, A Chaoba Singh of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai.
In another operation of a combined team of Imphal West police commando and 116 Battalion BSF at Kodompokpi last night around 10.30 pm, four HE hand grenades and one Chinese hand grenade were recovered the residence of an active member of the PREPAK, Taorem Manglemchandra (23).He himself, however, managed to escape the security force.
Meanwhile, troops of 27 AR recovered one shot gun loaded with two live rounds, a 9 mm pistol with a magazine loaded with three live rounds, two 40 mm lethode rounds, four live rounds of AK 47 and eight live rounds of .303 rifles and one detonator during a search operation at Umathel area of Thoubal district, a statement of the IGAR(S) said.
