Kangpokpi, October 21 2019:
Member of Autonomous District Council Sadar Hills appealed Chief Minister N Biren Singh to revoke the FIR and warrant filed against KSO Saikul and Tengnoupal in the larger interest of peace and tranquility in the state today.
Thangkam Lupheng, ADC Sadar Hills Member from Saikul, who is also the Spokesperson of ADC Sadar Hills said that an FIR has been filed against KSO Saikul and KSO Tengnoupal on the charge of forcing schools under their jurisdictions to remain closed on October 17 in connection with the Anglo-Kuki War Centenary Commemoration.
He said that the matter is no doubt, a contentious issue having a potential of serious repurcussions in the State and request the Chief Minister to revoke the FIR and subsequent warrants issued against the 2 student organisations on the following grounds.
Firstly, the KSO Saikul and KSO Tengnoupal are not the apex bodies or final authority to issue any directives including the directives to the schools.
So, such directives, if any, had ever been issued by the two students organisations, the same may not be treated as a serious matter.
Secondly, October 17 was observed peacefully in all Kuki inhabited areas without any problems and unwanted incidents.
Thirdly, the student bodies did not force or impose closure of the schools physically on the day.
It was a mere directive and more of a request.
Fourthly, the issue of "Erection of Anglo Kuki War Memorial stone" being turned into a sensitive issue, had now fired the emotions of the thousands of people and any attempt to arrest some student leaders on charges related with the said event may not be a desired step.
Fifthly, the arrest of some students leaders at this juncture may further aggravate the already tense and volatile situation among the Kuki community which is at present, gripped with extreme sentimental psychosis.
Therefore, in view of the stated grounds, the ADC member appeal to the Chief Minister to revoke the FIR and warrants filed against the two student bodies in the interest of peace and tranquility in the State.
