Imphal, October 21 2019:
A woman advisor of CAF&PD Labourer's Family Committee (CAF&PDLFC) narrowly survived and only sustained a slight scratch on her forehead after the DGM posted at FCI Regional Office located at Old Assembly Road, allegedly took out a gun and fired at her when she arrived at the office to submit a memorandum, at around 3.15 pm today.
Following the incident, members of the committee strongly raised a protest but the situation was brought under control by a large number of IRB and police personnel.
The DGM was also picked up by the police as well.
According to a source from the incident site, the incident occurred after members of the committee, who had arrived at the office to submit a memorandum containing various demands, got involved in a heated argument with the DGM.
Pointing out that the demands were all related to the welfare of the labourers working at Sangairprou and Jiribam FCIs, the source alleged that following the argument, the DGM took out a small gun and pulled the trigger.
The source continued that police have arrested the DGM, identified as one Dr S James.
On the other hand, the injured female advisor of the committee is one Hijam Kavita, the source informed adding that the bullet reportedly grazed her forehead.
Speaking to media persons, Kavita claimed that they had arrived at the office to submit the memorandum but the accused DGM began verbally abusing them and suddenly took out his gun and fired.
Demanding appropriate action against Dr S James immediately, Kavita said that the State Government should take this incident seriously and punish the DGM accordingly.
