Imphal, May 18 2013 :
Even as the warrant of arrest issued by Court in connection with the rape attempt on a sweeper by a CRPF personnel has been accepted by CRPF authority, they have asked police to send the victim and her elder sister to assist in their court of enquiry.
In connection with the rape attempt by a CRPF personnel posted at SBI MG Avenue branch on a 25 year old sweeper in the morning of May 14, Chief Judicial Magistrate, First Class issued warrant of arrest and directed City Police to pull up the accused.
A team of City Police went to 69th CRPF battalion at Mantripukhri today together with the arrest warrant.
Although the CRPF authority received the arrest warrant, they did not hand over accused Rakesh Kumar Yadav to police team, informed a source.
Instead of handing over the accused, CRPF authority asked the police team to send the victim and her elder sister to Mantripukhri to assist them in their court of enquiry.
On being enquired about the legal validity of summoning a victim for taking her statements, one senior police officer maintained that no victim of such crimes can be summoned to police stations or security posts/battalions even if their statements are required.
If the victim's statements are required, the investigating team should go to her home along with women police.
Accused Rakesh Kumar Yadav was arrested by City Police.
However, even before the preliminary interrogation began, a CRPF team took him away without giving any reason.
Since then, the accused has not been handed over to police.
