Charlesh Thangjam released without any condition; road block suspended
not involved with the arrest, clarifies MLA Brojen

Charlesh Thangjam, a resident of Lamding, who was arrested by Thoubal police for spearheading protest demonstration against CAB under the aegis of MANPAC, was released without any condition today at 3 pm while leaders of MANPAC and public accorded warm welcome.
The bandh imposed on Imphal-Moreh road along NH-102 in protest against the arrest of Charlesh Thangjam was also lifted following his release.
Leaders of MANPAC including Yumnamcha Dilipkumar, Ningthouja Lancha, Sunil Karam, Jeetendra Ningomba, Kh Devan and Khuraijam Athouba met the protesters at around 2 pm today and informed the authority concerned that the arrest of Charlesh Thangjam is against agreed resolution taken yesterday between the leaders of the MANPAC and the State Govt following which Charlesh Thangjam was released without any condition today.
Speaking to the media persons, convenor of MANPAC, Yumnamcha Dilipkumar informed that they have made their intention clear to the State Govt in the meeting held yesterday that the Govt must refrain from arresting any volunteers who were protesting against CAB in the last few weeks adding that MANPAC will fight for their protection tooth and nail if it happens.
He further asserted the public to stay calm as no more pull up and detention will take place as per their negotiation with the State Govt.He further said that the issue of CAB is not finished yet and it may spring up anytime soon.
He appealed the public to extend their full support in any kind of agitation initiated by the MANPAC in the interest of the State and public as well.
Sources informed that the arrest of Charlesh Thangjam was made after the officials of State Govt and leaders of MANPAC held series of talk at the Bungalow of Chief Minister yesterday while adding that the Manipur police were hunting the main protestors who took vital role in the agitation against Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) under the supervision of MANPAC.
Earlier, in protest against the arrest of the volunteer by the Thoubal police from his residence in the early morning, public of Thoubal took their protest to the street and block the road at Wangjing area on Imphal-Moreh road along NH-102 and put restriction on movement of vehicles demanding unconditional release of Charlesh Thangjam and condemned the detention of protestors against CAB.
Charlesh Thangjam is a native of Lamding Nasikhong Leikai and s/o (L) Thangjam Shyamo.
Speaking to the media persons on the sideline of the protest, S Konica condemned the act of detaining the protestors against CAB by the police.
Placards which read as "Stop personal attempt on protestors", "We condemn arrest of protestors against CAB" and "Protest against CAB is not personal" were used during the blockage of road.
In the meantime, SP Thoubal S Goutam tried to pacify the situation by inviting the protestors for talk at his office but it did bring any positive result.
It may be mentioned here that the agitating protestors from Wangjing area, while venting out their anger against the passage of CAB, stormed the residence of MLA Wangjing Tentha AC Paonam Brojen and pelted stones to the office of BJP Wangjing Tentha Mandal.
On the other hand, Wangjing Tentha AC MLA Paonam Brojen Singh has clarified that he has no connection with the arrest of one Thangjam Charlesh Singh from Lamding Nasikhong Leikai by Thoubal Police yesterday.
Saying that even though his house at Wangjing Bazar, few shops along with the BJP office at Wangjing Tentha were attacked by the irate protesters while protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 few days back, he clarified that he had not filed any report or complaint about the matter to anyone as the issue was critical and concerned about State's future.
He then appealed all not to upload or share news, especially concerning the State, without valid proof in the coming days.
