Wangbrel Pana emerges winner in Haksel Quiz

With conducting of the final round, Haksel Mega Quiz contest organised by All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) came to a close at Iboyaima Shumang
Leela Shanglen today.
Based on drug and HIV/AIDS, the contest was conducted under the theme, 'Let us save our threatened identity from narcotic imperialism' .
Wangbrel Pana, Koubru Pana, Thangjing Pana and Marjing Pana emerged first, second, third and fourth prize winners respectively in the final round hosted by DMC Science Lecturer Raheijudin Sheikh (Shamu) and Monika Konjengbam.
Computer, TV and generator sets were given to first, second and third prize winners respectively.
Advocate Ng Tejkumar, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) President A Mobi, National Sports Academy Principal T Purnachandra and Bishnupur District Hospital Psychiatrist Dr H Angomcha witnessed the final round as experts.
Speaking at the occasion, Advocate Ng Tejkumar said, if a person is caught for illegal selling or abusing of drugs, he/she can be imprisoned for 6 years or fined upto Rs 2 lakhs under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 .
Maintaining that drug abuse is a major hindrance in State's progress in different fields, the Advocate observed that imparting awareness to the youths is a must to keep them away from the menace.
A Mobi while speaking in the function said, media persons must not merely take HIV/AIDS as a news but as a big problem being faced by the whole Nation.
The NGOs which are working in this field must also not see the money only but put its sincere and dedicated effort in controlling the epidemic.
Saying that drug peddling and smuggling are increasing day by day, Dr H Angomcha observed that people must take a strong pledge to stand united against it.
Department of Social Welfare Director G Satyabati, AMADA Vice-President Y Sundari Leima and MACS Deputy Director Dr L Tomcha were the chief guest, president and guest of honour of the closing function respectively.
